Ramblings...

Haven't written in a few days, Been really busy, So figured I'd better sit down and write something really really profound!! BUT then I sat here and sat here and oh Hell there goes Sadie....be right back.

OH SHIT!!!!!!!!! My Brother's band is playing in Pt. Angeles this weekend, so I am dog-sitting...Rocky is the funniest dog I have ever seen. He is 1/2 Boxer and 1/2 either pit bull, or rotweiller we aren't sure. His ears are not cropped and neither is his tail which is about 18 inches long and thin. Rocky is his name. As in BOXER get it? I didn't...anyway, Sadie does NOT like him....growls, and barks, and basically lets her Buzzard mouth override her hummingbird ass. the Hair on both of their backs was standing straight up and both were snapping and growling. I have NEVER seen ROcky act aggresive towards anybody or anything. But he sure tried to with Sadie, and she tried right back. I'm not sure who woulda won this round, but since I have a dog in this fight, I thought maybe I had better try and keep them as far apart as possible. I think it's gonna be a LOOOONNNNGGGG weekend. Uncle Bandit could care less, who does what, as long as he gets fed and kept warm. He is pretty much hen-pecked by Sadie too. Maybe if they get used to each other through the doggie gate things will be ok. Rocky and Bandit are Buds. Sadie and Bandit are Buds, it's just Rocky and Sadie that snarl at each other.

Tonite is opening night for OVER THE RIVER AND THROUGH THE WOODS at The Whidbey Playhouse. I have already had one of the cast members call and ask If I would re-take his picture, because he thought he looked like he should be in a Gay Chorus Line. EGOS....Ok Chad, I will retake your picture, but then you gotta live with it. I will run down, retake it, run back home print it out and run back in and post it on the board. I will admit, It did look pretty bad. His makeup was too dark. So we are going to re-do it with out makeup.

I am getting so nervous about GODSPELL. This has got to be done just right, and there are so many people that are going to audition, and I just hope I pick the right cast. Guess I won't know until I get there huh?

It has gotten really cold here this week. Right now the wind is calm and the sun is shing, but it is COLD. They really are predicting the possibility of snow tonight and tomorrow. GOODY!!! I love snow!!! Oh WAIT....It can't snow, I have AUDTIONS...Sun and Mon. Better re-think this.

ever see a cat walk across a room and into another room WITHOUT TOUCHING THE FLOOR? Chitters does not like ROCKY! So he made it from the front room window to the office window by walking across every piece of furniture in the front of the house. FUNNY...

BOO!!!!!!

An extremely modest man was in the hospital for a series of tests, the last of which had left his bodily systems extremely upset.

Upon making several false alarm trips to the bathroom, he decided the latest episode was another and stayed put. He suddenly filled his bed with diarrhea and was embarrassed beyond his ability to remain rational.

In a complete loss of composure he jumped out of bed, gathered up the bed sheets, and threw them out the hospital window.
A drunk was walking by the hospital when the sheets landed on him. He started yelling, cursing, and swinging his arms violently trying to get the unknown things off, and ended up with the soiled sheets in a tangled pile at his feet.

As the drunk stood there, unsteady on his feet, staring down at the sheets, a hospital security guard (barely containing his laughter) who had watched the whole incident walked up and asked, "What the heck is going on here?"

The drunk, still staring down replied: "I think I just beat the SHIT out of a ghost!"

So, Happy Halloween!

Auroras tonite!!!

No picture, but as good a description of them as I have ever read. go to Chris' blog and indulge!

He is about 100 miles north of me in Howe Sound off Vancouver, Ca

sunset

THis is in no way a good composition, but the colors are very accurate. This was at the height of the storm. Looks ominous huh?

And then there was Light!!!

Well, If you have been reading Phyllis' blog, you will know that I was without power for awhile yesterday, and it was not too stable when it came back on. I opted to be safe, and NOT be on the 'puter. I turned it off, and went to bed. Lights kept dimming, so I was watching TV and woke up when my daughter got home. She works off Island In Everett. The wind was sooo bad and coming from a different direction than usual, that it caused wide spread damage. Some of it being at the Mukilteo Ferry landing. The Ivars Restaurant there lost it's outside deck, and the water was slapping so hard UNDER the place that the floors were raising 3-4 FEET up. Needlees to say they evacuated the place. Donna stops there frequently for dinner before she gets on the ferry to come home. I called and she was in the mall. The Ferry had shut down for safety, and the line was 2 miles up the hill, so she figured she'd play it safe and shop. None of the street lights were working all along hiway 99 and 525. She said when she got on the ferry, that you couldn't see the island. All the lights were out.

Yep They were. Especially on the south end where the ferry lands. A branch feel over the main line up-island, and put everybody in the dark. Tree fell on a car in the state park killing one man too. Bad winds!!! The news said it was gusting up to 63 MPH on the Base. I believe it!

My Garbage can rolled across the front yard, and the front door blew open, that's when I knew the wind was different. My lights went out at 4:00 so I went on in to Oak Harbor to the Playhouse. Got the Bios and pictures posted on the lobby wall, set up the box office for member's night and turned it over to someone else and left. On the way home, I looked across the water at Coupeville, and there were no lights. Somebody STOLE Coupeville!~!! wow. When I got over there, only the old part or the historical part was black, the Prarie Center side was lit. I took the back way home to avoid the non-working stoplight, and it looked so odd to not see lights in the farmhouses. It was almost like You were all alone. The fields were dark, but across the sound you could see a few lights, and the glow from Seattle was showing above the South end. Othwerwise, DARK! Real DARK!

I had put a flashlight between the storm door and the front door for Donna, and called and told her the power was out. She wasn't home yet, so I left my headlights on and got the flashlight to get into the house. Went back turned out the headlights and came in and lit lamps and candles. I pulled out the Coleman lamp, assembled it and turned it on. It puts out heat as well as light, so I put it on the desk, and turned on the laptop to post my blog to word.

Lint jumped up and curled around the lantern to keep warm and stuck his nose right on to the chimney of the lamp and burned his little nose. Won't do that again. Just got all comfy, had the boom-box tuned to the local channel KWDB and listened to the local news. Had 1/2 a page written on the lappie and heard a generator close by. Hmmmmm Lea must have bought a new generator, she said she was, and she had lights. I typed a little more, and just felt weird, so I got up to look outside, and noticed that everybody else had a generator too. How weird is that? turned around to blog some more and noticed the kitchen light was on. DUH!!!!

Lesson for Mary Lou: ALWAYS KEEP A LIGHT TURNED ON IN THE ROOM YOU ARE IN SO YOU KNOW WHEN THE POWER COMES BACK ON. DUH DUH DUH

This morning I put Sadie out to pottie, and I watched her from my window. She did her business and was watching the birds, and decided to chase one. Right under the Wisteria bush and right into stinging Nettles!!! they bit her little nose, and she jumped back and barked and barked and barked at the BIG BAD BUSH that EATS PUPPY NOSES!! I laughed so hard. She is such a joy,

Ok, I'm caught up now. gotta get wood in and get ready for Chapter 2 which will hit either tonight or tomorrow. It is all coming down fron the Gulf of Alaska. OK Rachel, how bad is it gonna be, you have it first I hear.

See ya.

HELL WEEK!!

This was technically the last dress rehearsal before a live audience comes in. We Have our Members night tomorrow, and If you are a member of The Whidbey Playhouse, you can get to see all of the plays free on Members night. (Cheapest Season Ticket in Town!) So tonight I was frantically taking pictures of scenes that I needed for the story board in the Lobby. Just finished enhancing and printing out all of the 8X10 head shots and the bios too. So tomorrow, I will be busy, too. Gotta go get my MRI on the bum knee, take Zucchini bread into Phyllis office, get gasoline, run into the Playhouse and decorate the lobby, then take a deep breath and relax for a day until opening night on Friday.

I start GODSPELL on Sunday with Auditions, then after that show is over I will be able to just relax. I have worked every show this year, and I had not planned on that. Just worked out that way. I enjoy it, and it has helped me get through this year. When February comes and the show closes, I will once again start in on the inside of the house. As you all remember, I took a hiatus from painting the inside because the weather was so good outside. Well I didnt get all of the outside done either, but I did get more than I had thought. The yard actually looked pretty good this year. At least the back yard did.

I was planning on getting some fall bulbs planted, but I just ran out of money, time and weather. There is always next year. Bob got my cultivator working, so I can turn over the garden where the Zucchini was growing. I might even try some cold weather gardening. Spinach, lettace, cabbage garlic etc. It is usually so wet and soggy here in the winter that you need mud boots to garden in. Maybe we will have as dry a winter as we did a summer. Although you wouldn't know it by all the flooding we just had huh?

Brenda has me wanting to do something with my hair. Hers looked sooo good, that Now I am thinking that if I colored the gray up and had it styled I might look a tad bit younger. I wanted the gray to grow out, as a badge of honor, and I like it, but every time I wake up and look in the mirror, I see my Mother, and THAT scares me. (Shudder)

The time change threw me for a loop today. I have no idea why, but it just seemed like it was dead winter!! the alarm went off at 700 and it was light out, which was really nice, but the fog stayed and it got darker as the day wore on. I took a looong nap, and when I woke up I realized that it was gonna be dark real soon. I do not like the dark days. Never used to bother me before, but now they do. Maybe it is because I feel like I am in the winter of my life sometimes. I keep hoping for spring again, but it ain't gonna happen to this body!! I will be counting the days until Winter Solstice, when the Sun turns its journey back to the North again. THen I think I will feel brighter and better.

Thank you all for dropping in on Phyllis blog. She actually wrote an entry! Cool. Now she wants to change the colors. I knew she would. She's just that kinda girl. DOes anyone know why on her 'puter my blog shows up different than on mine? All of my links and archives, and the side bar stuff is all on the bottom of her page, but it is where I put it on mine.
Better fix it before I start messing with HER blog huh?

Wish me luck tomorrow! knee feels really good right now. maybe it'll be ok.

Zuchinni Bread. LOTS OF IT!!!

Ok, Ya'll, I just made another 10 loaves of bread. I will have coffee on first thing in the morning, so everybody come on over for a slice and a cup. I might even manage to send you home with a loaf under your arm.

I just added comments to Phyllis' Blog. I told her ya'll would come visit. I set her up with just the bare bones blog just to see if she would use it, and already she wants comments! Won't be long before she'll be adding blinkies, and smilies, and tags, and all those other kind of things 'cause she is just that way. (I should say I will be adding them for her< She can't even change the VCR)

She is a very touchy-feelie type person where I am sarcastic and brittle. She is in to crocheting and reading. Her Favorite is STEPHEN KING. She loves really spooky scary things and really gets into Halloween. SHe is single and has no children. Owns her own home free and clear. and works as an operations manager for the local Bus COmpany. If she wants to she can tell you more about herself.

Sadie is now staying out by herself more and more. And she has learned how to bark really well. She stands at my bedroom window and barks when she is ready to come in. She is getting so damned cute. AND BIG!!!

THis next week is what we in the theater call HELL WEEK> it is the week we open and everything that can go wrong does. Tomorrow I have to put the story board together and print out the cast pictures and do Bios on them all.

NEW TOPIC:

Anybody know any neat places to go for blog thingies? skins, blinkies, smilies, templates, stickers, yadayadayadya?
I have been looking and just havent found them yet. I did find webmonkey.

Gotta run Sadie is barking....see ya'll tomorrow for coffee.

new blog for Phyllis

Ok folks, I just set my Sister up a very basic blog to see if she will use it. She might, she might not. Let's give her a chance. She won't have comments or anything until we see if she really posts...then we will suck her in really good. She is younger than I, and she still has to work. HEHEHEHEHEHee She is very Independant and has a sicker sense of humor thatn I do. SHe LOVES practical jokes, and cats, and wolves. Oh and ALASKA.

GO Phyllis!!!!

until she changes it, which she probaly will.

Guess Where I've Been?

For Brenda...

Here is the Eagle picture i promised you. I had to scan it from a negative, so I hope it looks ok. I took this in Adak, Ak when I was stationed there. THey were as thick as Crows. This one was sitting on the Dumpster out behind the commissary store when I got off work. I just drove up to him/her rolled down my window and shot it from the car. They are really scavengers and dirty but I love them.

Today I had a new visitor. So being the nice person I am I went to Patricks' site and read some of his blog. I noticed that he has TONS of theater links, so I bookmarked him. Do yourselves a favor and go to October 20 blog entry at his site, and read it. I laughed soooo hard!!!!

NEW MOON

WHOO-HOOO Dig my New moon thingie...I am so Proud of me....
I was all snugged down in my warm bed, socks on my ice cold feet, a cup of hot cocoa (made from Scratch) Sadie in bed for the night, and reading "I is for Innocent" and had just got to the part where Bibianna had jsut escaped from Raymond when the phone rang. It was my Sister Phyllis. The Northern lights were supposed to show up tonight, and the sky is actually clear. She called to see if I would go down to the beach with her to see if we could see them. I groaned and told her I was already in bed. She begged, so I said ok, you run by and pick me up.

I crawled out of my nice warm bed threw on my sweats over my still warm pj's and slipped on my Birkies and went to the street to wait for her. We went down to the beach, where there is no light and parked the car looking North so we could see if there was any Boreal activity. NOPE. THat is when Phyllis confessed that she only wanted me there because she is afraid of the dark. I have known her all of her life, I knew that. That is what Sister's are for. To keep the other one safe from the scary monsters in the dark. Done it all my life! Of course I'm afraid too, so we both sat there telling scary stories, in the dark, in a car, on the beach road, in our pj's. I looked over at phyllis and said..."I hope a cop doesn't come by now, they will think we are parkers, and flash a light into the car, and then they'll think we are LESBIANS!!!"

There was a faint wisp of ground fog every once in awhile, but for the most part the sky was clear, and the stars were so close you could hear them twinkling. We could hear the ducks and waterfowl on Crockett Lake, and the owls hooting in the trees across the Lake. The Salt water was sloshing softly on the rocks and they were making a soft rushing noise as the water pushed and pulled at them. These are rocks almost through with their evolution from boulders into sand. THey are mostly gravel size, and make a very musical sound when moved by the water. It was one of the coldest nights so far this season, 36 and you could see your breath. The only thing missing was the Northern Lights. THey were a no-show. At least at midnight they were.

Halloween

Frosty Morn...

Well not really, but CLOSE! I din't wake up until 900!! What a SLUG! I actually slept really well last night. My knee wasn't hurting, and neither was my back. I woke up when Sadie started the HOOOOWWWWWWLLLLLLLing. the uh uh uh uh uh uh didnt wake me up. I musta been sleeping GOOD. I dont even remember getting up to pee!!! (NO, I didnt!!). Ethel was sleeping warmly and comfortingly in the middle of my back. I raised my head and looked out the window, and Lola was on the feeder stuffing her little face. She has not been here in a while. She stays well hidden when it is nasty out. I was glad to see her back again. Still have not seen her babies.

I stagger in to the bathroom and pick up Sadie, and head for the back yard. BRRRRR the barefeet aint gonna hack it today. So I shoved her out the door by herself and watched from the window. She looked over her shoulder at me with her tail tucked under as if to say."so it's too cold out here for you, and you expect me to squat my little twat over the cold wet grass?" I did not even feel bad about it either.

As i wandered into the kitchen to make a pot of coffee, I tripped over Sadie leavings. No not poop, but all the trash in the world. She finds junk everywhere and deposits it right where I will trip on it. The floor was cold, my toes were cold, the house was cold, the sun was shining really brightly. It hit me that the weather has finally turned. It is Autumn for sure now. I still can not bring myself to start a fire yet though. I try not to turn on the heat or build a fire until Nov 1. I only use wood heat, electricity is only used as a back up. I have a really tight house, and it holds the heat well. And the windows bring the heat from the sun into the room very nicely.

I like a cool house too. Nothing is better than putting on a warm fuzzy big sloppy sweater, soft cords, and a pair of slipper socks, and cozying up on the sofa with a book, or needlework. Sadie is in and playing under the desk. Better post quick!!!

How'd they do that?

ok, Anybody out there able to figure this out?

1. Key into the calculator the first 3 digits of your phone number (not
area
code).

2. Multiply by 80

3. Add 1

4. Multiply by 250

5. Add last 4 digits of your phone number

6. Add last 4 digits of your phone number again

7. Subtract 250

8. Lastly, divide by 2

Is this your phone number???

If you can figure this out, please explain how the arithmetic works!!

Dirty Dog...

THe precious little puppy I had 6 weeks ago has now turned into THE HORRID HOUND!!! She is sassy and beggy and is resisting pottie training. Just like TX's grandchild! This week her Uncle Bandit has taught her how to dig!!! >:-(

see....

Bright Morning

Did you know that the Pacific Northwest holds the honor of selling more sunglasses per capita than any where else in the world? Yep rainy, nasty foggy, cloudy Seattle. It is because the sun comes through the atmosphere at such an angle that it is blinding to your eyes. I myself have 2 pair of prescription glasses.

This morning was one such morning. I had to get up and take Donna to the repair shop to pick up her car. IT was cloudless. and it had just rained and was wet everywhere. THe sun hit the roads and was blinding. On the way home, I had to stop at Praire Center for some coffee, and came home down Ft. Caset Rd and the air was so clean and fresh and bright. THe fields had a lazy foggy haze that was not quite yet ready to give itself up to the heat of the sun. A Thick fog bank sat low on the Inlet, and the rest of the world was bright blue and gorgeous! I am going to have to get in the habit again of carrying my camera in the car again. I only have 2 35 MM's with all the lens. 1 Mamiya 634 large format camera. An advantix camera. and of course my Sony Mavica. All sitting at home. Several photo ops were passed up and I hated it.

This morning at 500 when I had to take Sadie out to pee, I noticed the stars! The sky was cloudless, and the stars were so close you could touch them. No moon, and no light to spoil it. I always feel so damned insignificant when I look up at the stars and realize that We are just a speck of dust in the Cosmic Wholeness. It is really hard to wrap your mind around that . ..

Too little time!!

I have been so busy the past two days that I have not had time to blog. I did blog for a full 20 minutes this morning about 130, but the "Sassy Little Bitch" ran under the computer desk and unplugged the computer before i could post it. I got up with Chemystery this morning. 'cause her car was broken. Moral support I thought. Did laundry played with the puppy, and got ready for Dr.

I have what he thinks is a torn anterior "something or other" and there was a LOT of fluid on my knee. He ooed and ahhhed at it , poked and poked at it then went after it with a honkin' big needle. He asperated some liquid off of it, which helped, but it was bloody, so He is sending me for an MRI on Tuesday. Probably will have to have surgery. SWELL. Why couldn't I have done this while I was working and had an HMO and only a 10.00 co-pay and 100% on in-hospital stays. Now it costs me 20% of EVERYTHING! WAHHHHHHH!!!! he chewed me out for waiting to come in. (YEAH< YEAH YEAH)

OFf to the playhouse to get the cues re-set and the last run-through before the Press comes to watch.

Brenda, when I get all caught up I will post some Super Eagle pictures for you that I took in Adak, Alaska. And I will try and get a picture of the eagle and heron on Hastie Lake.

On the way to town today I looked at the Lake as I passed. Eagle standing on the bottom of the lake in the mud, no Heron today but TWO eagles on the fence posts. We surmise that there is a nest around there as there is always at least 5 eagles in various stages of adult hood on the posts when the hay and alphalfa get cut. (mice and Rabbits ya know) They know a good thing when they see it.

On to bed before the horrid hound wakes up.

Phyllis' Sunset

This one is for you Brenda...My sister took this one about this time of year last year. This is the west side of the Island looking out into the Straight of Juan De Fuca. This is Ebey's Landing.

In someone's Blog this morning, I read where they saw both a heron and an eagle. At the same time. I have blogged before about driving past Hastie Lake, and seeing the eagles on the fence posts. Today I was driving by and noticed how much the bottom of the lake was showing, even with all of this rain. Right in the middle of the weeds growing in the mud was a Bald Eagle jsut standing on the bottom of the lake. To his right, about ankle deep in the little bit of water there was, was a Great Blue Heron. AN eagle and a heron at the same time. I guess that makes me really lucky today too. Now if I could only remember who it was.

THe temperature this evening is in the high 60's. Usually at this time of the year we are down into the low 40's. ( That's farenheit Kat and Leslie...) I kicked the covers off the bed because my feet were burning. I was also breaking into a sweat. I can not believe this weather. In 1991 the rain was so bad, that the earth was sliding into the Sound. Everywhere you looked, people had blue tarps hanging over their fragile bluff lines trying to keep them dry. It seemed to work some what, but I would expect that it could become quite expensive trying to keep all those tarps from blowing away. THe bluff lines are sometimes very high, and they would have tarps all the way to the bottom. If it starts sliding from the top, it will put your house right on the beach. KAPLOOEY!! The rivers all over are rising very fast, and they have evacuated people from the upper Skagit area. I guess they were expecting it to crest at 40 feet. I thought normal was 28, I must be wrong. They are going to let some water out of Ross Dam also, to releive the pressure on the dam. There are three very big dams on the upper Skagit, and if the highest one went, it would be horrendous. They are all pretty secure as we speak, but if this rain keeps up....

THe commercial went well, and we ran a light cue rehearsal, which really needs work. We will do that one tomorrow, and then it is on to Press Night, where all of the local and neighboring newspapers are invited to come watch the play in return for a nice review and free publicity. We usually get pretty good coverage out of it, but with all the other things happening around the area, who knows.

I actually am starting to get sleepy, so I think I will sign off, and try to get some sleep. I can't sleep in tomorrow, as I have to take Loki in to have his little ears looked at. He is scratching at them so hard they are bleeding. Poor love. He comes to his mommie for help and I grab the ear wash. He HATES it. He is such a big LOVER. Hope it isnt anything serious.

Monday, October 20, 2003

I spent another night wide awake. I went to bed to read about 10:00, fell asleep face down in my book. Woke up with Sadie yelling to go pee. So out in the rain and wind we went, in my nightgown and birkies, to have her decide that all she wants to do is chase the leaves. After about 15 minutes of getting soaked, I said enough and came back in and left her outside.

I came in here to see what I can do about fixing my blog, and after about 30 minutes I hear scritch scritch whine whine. She had discovered which window I was in and was doing her best to look pitiful. It worked. I brought her in and she of course was ready for bed. I was wide awake. So I worked on the computer until 300 and went to bed. WOke up at 500 and stayed up until 730, and went to watch the today show and fell back to sleep until 100. I have got to get my schedule back on track. I truly think it is the darkness that is getting me. It was pitch black at 730 this morning. Reading back in my blog, to when I first started it, I was so excited about being up at the crack of dawn, to watch it get light. At 500!! I can't wait until we get to the Solstice and the sun turns it path back North again. I feel like I have wasted a wole day. I have to voice over the commercial for the play today and I haven't even written it! Why do I alwysa wait until the last minute to do something?

It is raining like hell again. Seattle streets are flooding. The Skagit river has flood warnings on it again. It could really get messy this time. The rivers have not gone all the way down since the last flood, and the dikes could fail in places. A summer with NO rain, and a month with 15" really has put us in harms way. The reservoirs are finally back to normal though, so no water shortage for the winter. What we really need is a good cold snap, and lots of snow in the mountains. THat would keep the rivers from flooding, and build the snow pack up for next summer. Everybody blow really hard, and get that jet stream up into the Gulf of Alaska, and then back down the coast as COLD . Sounds really good to me.

Now when I get home I need to figure out how to change the colors on my comments line, and then all of the orange should be gone. By the time I get this all done, It will be time to change it Christmas colors. I can hardly wait...

Sunday, October 19, 2003

Well, As much as I hate to do it, I am going to have to spend some money and make an appointment to see the Dr tomorrow. My knees are both really bad now, and my right shoulder is heading south really fast. I wake myself up wheezing, an coughing, so I know there is something going on there. (prolly a fur ball) and they called me and told me it is time for my flu shot. Just got all the dr. Bills paid, now we gotta start over.

Little miss Sadie is growing like a weed!!! I had to buy her a new collar today. And I invested in a choke chain to start teaching her to heel, and sit/stay. This oughta be really good. A Sassy Cocker Puppy and an indulgent old retired fart trying to learn obedience. Fun huh?

Fixed a really good roast tonight with potatoes and carrots and a salad and a crunchy crusty loaf of Tuscan bread. Yummy. Sat down after dinner and got all my bills paid, so now I hold my breath and wait until Nov 1, when I will have money again. All of my life I have gotten paid 2 times a month, now it is only once a month, and It realaly scares me. I know I should be able to make it, but I am still a little leary of spending any money on myself. I did however send off for some new cords from Lane Bryant. THey are so comfy. Cords, Sweatshirts, and slipper socks thats quite a wardrobe for me huh? Don;t have to dress up anymore, so I am packing all of those away for another day. ('sides, they don't fit anymore anyway. :-(

Better skip on over and see if Kat has disposed of Preiss' body yet. LOLOLOLOL She must be someone to know!!

This one's for TW

Here is an animal with no fur!!! It is my Brothers' Salmon crested cockatoo, her name is chiquita and she is the ugliest fekking bird I have ever seen. She hates everybody but Michael, and pulls all her feathers out where she can reach. She;s been this way for at least 10 years. (Shudder)

What kind of drink are you?

Hells Bells, I'm a fekkin' GLASS OF WATER!!!!

Virgin to many things you are. Just get drunk and have sex dammit. And not with yourself anymore . . . .
Congratulations!! You're a glass of water!! . .. um

What Drink Are You?
brought to you by Quizilla

How Sad is that?

for you Leslie

I went to GRouchy Old Cripple this morning and the picture he had posted reminded me of Leslie's blog this morning.

sleepless in Coupeville...

I did it again. Woke up at 0'dark-thirty, and could not get back to sleep. I read for a while, got sleepy turned out the light and woke up again. This time I came in to the 'Puter, to see if anyone else was up like me. COuldn't find anybody, so I decided to try adding links. My Guest map is finally on the top of the column, so all of you can now find it and SIGN IN PLEASE...

I looked at my template, and I felt like the first person to try and read hieroglyphics. SAY WHAT? Ok, I am fairly intelligent, and can usually figure out something if I play with it long enough. I was afraid to play here, for fear I would screw up my blog, and not be able to fix it back. Finally after trial and error, I got one link to work, but I couldn't remember which trial and which error was the right one, because I forgot to re-publish. Just kept going back to my blog. OK Now know THAT doesn't work! I got the right formula, and the color was wrong. I will fix it today. And I will add all of you too. Just be patient with me.

I have been visiting with Fran at NORTHWEST NOTES and her topic today was politics. She said so nicely what I have been feeling, but afraid to voice. Politics and Religion are two topics you should never talk about with family or friends. It causes major rifts. Most of us are informed, but only to the extent that we really want to hear. We tend to turn off those people that we do not agree with. It is a real shame that there is not a true truth source that will publish just the facts, with no ideologies attached. Allow us to form our own opinions. There is not a news source out there that isn't slanted one way or the other. I get so tired of the vituperous spewing from both sides of the aisle. Why can't there be someone who can get us over the Clinton-DIrty-politics, and back on track with governing our country. I will vote for the first person who runs a clean, honest, no-mud slinging campaign, and that seems to have his or her ducks in a row. There are more informed people than me out there, and I am trusting them to make the right decisions for all of us. What is nice to know though that regardless of your politics, most of us agree that our system right now is broke, and needs to be repaired. On both sides.

There I said it.

On to Applesauce and Zucchini bread. See, I'm not all bad...
Just added the Daughter....Brenda and Leslie...

whoo-Hoo,

IT WORKED!!!! I even got the color changed on the font but I can't find where I change the size of the font. WHy in the holy HELL don't they publish a road map with these things? Two of you are on there, now to find the rest of you, and list you correctly.....Gonna be a long night!!!!!

testing again...

Well not knowing exactly where to put these puppies, I may have poor leslie at the bottom of the page again. I am trying with Leslie, and If I can get her to work, then I will be linking all of you here too. Don't hold your breath, you know me.

Life after NEXCOM

Life after NEXCOM

Well everybody Look out!!! i just finished picking all the zuchinni off the 8 plants I babyied all summer. How many would each of you like? LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOl They are HUGE. Lots of zuchinni bread for the freezer this year!!

Flood warnings....

Even though we live on an Island, and there are no major creeks or rivers on the island, our lives are very much affected by the rising rivers in the area. I-5 runs over about 6 major rivers, from Tacoma to the Canadian Border, and all of these rivers are expected to flood. What this will do to us, is keep our much needed supplies away from us. Although we have never run entirely out of anything, It does make you plan ahead. Fill your gas tanks, Buy extra milk and bread.

When the Skagit River floods, it becomes really messy. our major access point to the main land is over Deception Pass, and across the Skagit Valley. This is a big flat low lying delta, that is farmed during all seasons. It is also the only way on the island without taking the Ferry at the South end. When the valley floods, Highway 20 and I-5 are closed. Mt. Vernon is where all of the major malls are for us to shop. Hmmmmm Maybe there will be some good flood bargains. Seriously, this could be a major disaster. It floods every year, but with no rain in months, all the water is running off the land, and into the rivers. Usually the rain that we get, is a light soaky rain, and seeps right into the land. Well this time it isn't. In some places there has been upwards of 6" since this weekend.

Skagit river basin 450 am PDT Fri Oct 17 2003

Skagit river at Concrete...

flood stage: 28.0 feet. Latest reading: 28.5 feet at 430 am.

Forecast: cresting near 34 feet around 10 PM tonight.

Skagit river at Mount Vernon...

flood stage: 28.0 feet. Latest reading: 21.2 feet at 400 am.

Forecast: rising to flood stage around noon.
Cresting near 33 feet 10 am Saturday morning.

The predicted crest on the Skagit would result in major flooding.
The river will inundate Farmlands and roads in the Skagit Valley
... With flooding in the residential areas of several towns. This
corresponds to a phase 2 flood on the Skagit river.

Let's hope everyone is prepared.

Autumn storm.

I woke up this morning with rain blowing in my window, right on my face. I love that feeling. Wasn't really wanting it today though, as it got my hair wet again, and I had to work today. Ah well. Sadie wanted to just run and run and chase the leaves all over the yard. She went behind the deck, and a big gust of wind came roaring through between the houses, and out she ran, tail tucked between her legs, back legs in front of her front legs and yipping loudly. MOMMIE! MOMMIE! big bad Noise growling at me!!! She ran under my robe, and peeked out as I stood there laughing my ass off. She gave me a look that said, "you aren't sposed to laugh at me, I'm SCARED." So I picked her up and cuddled her, as I took her back into the house.

Had to get the Dear Darling Daughter up, as the lights were blinking and I knew she would need the electricity before the power went out. There were three little bitty alder trees down across the power lines as I drove into work, not enough to break the lines, but enough to worry you as you drove under them.

This storm kinda took us by surprise. We knew one was coming, but had no idea it would be this intense. We live with the knowledge that we can and will loose power. So we stay well prepared with hurricane lamps, extra kerosene, lots of candles, batteries, bottles of water, Coleman lanterns, stoves and plenty of wood and kindling. Unfortunately for me, I had to go to WORK!!! I would have loved to stay home and watch the storm blow on through.

I live on a hill side about 1/4 mile from the water up about 100 feet, and just dead North of the Hood Canal. This Canal is a long narrow fijord really, surrounded by high land masses, one side is the Olympic Mountains and the other is the Kitsap Penninsula. Wind that comes swirling in from the Pacific, and skirts the bottom of the Mountains picks up speed as it tries to push its' way through the narrow opening. We get smacked every time the storms come in from Hawaii. Commonly called the Pineapple Express.

When I realized how bad it was, I drove home along the back way, by the Ferry landing and along the beach. THe Ferry to Pt. Townsend had been cancelled all day because of the high winds. (trust me you do not want to be on the ferry in wind like that) The water in the Keystone Harbor was splashing up onto the Ferry landing, and really putting on a show. As I drove down the 1.2 mile strand deserted by now, I watched the waves break over the rocky berms and splash way up into the air. LOVED IT!!! I am hooting and yelling and WOWIng and Sadie is just laying there on the front seat, looking up at me under her eyelashes, like "man she has really flipped out".

I got home, and ran in to turn on the scanner. There was so much traffic on it that you couldn't really tell what was going on except that there were a whole lot of trees down. Life in Rural Washington State, can be really exciting...you just gotta look for it, and take pleasure in the small things, wind, sea, rocks, trees, storms, candles, lanterns, portable radios, and lots of long haired pets to keep you warm and secure. I used to want a guy, but now If I had one, he would probably get all mushy on me, in front of the fire, and I'd just want to watch the STORM. Don't get storms like these everyday. (Shit! Don't get nookie EVER!)...

Miss Bea...

This Is Baby Bea Bunny. She is 7 months old and growing in her winter coat, right now she is really shaggy man!!

Gremlins

THere is a theme running through every one's blogs today...except for KAT Hunkering down, feeling lethargic, slight depression, and general malaise. I know that I am feeling really down. Started last night on the way home from the Playhouse.. The moon was trying to break through the clouds and looked really forlorn. I came through town and it was all closed up and tucked in for the night. Even the Cop was no where to be seen. (small town....REALLY SMALL) I drove on through and rounded the s curves that used to be someone's fence line, but have been straightened out through the years, and headed on past the Outlying Field. (Navy Practice field) Even the planes were gone. The whole world looked pulled in, hunkered down, ready for a long night ahead. It was if it was waiting for something to happen, and wasn't sure what.

I got home, and the Daughter was really crabby or so it seemed, says she was just tired. OK! So I tried to get on the computer, and everything was really sloooow. Now I have absolutely NO patience when it comes to tech things. I paid really good money for this thing and I expect it to work when I want it to. FEH! It sensed in me the same crabbiness that I sensed in Donna. It would not respond. Tech wins again.

Today while reading everyone, I noticed that comments have been turned off. Not everywhere but at least on Blogger. It appears there is a Spammer on the loose. That just adds to my crankiness. I want to get out there and visit with my new friends and I can't. That makes me want to just go on back to bed and cover up. I think Leslie had it right, There must be some gene in us somewhere that says when the light starts leaving, crawl under a rock or into a cave and sleep all winter. Seasonal Affective DIsorder is what it is called, and is s'posed to be kept at bay by full-spectrum lighting. I have two 100 watt bulbs in my office and they don't do the job.

Someone in the neighborhood has their wood stove on. I smell the pungent odor of wood smoke. That in itself stirs feelings of wrapping up in a warm robe, a good blankie, witha nice warm fire going, and a nice lamp shining on your chair. Small dog at your feet, cat on your lap, and a good cuppa in both hands. Gotta use both hands. It doesn't feel comforting using just one hand. Oh forgot the good book. I'm reading Sue Grafton right now I am up to G right now, but it is time for a really good New Barbara Delinsky Book, or a Nora Roberts . A good heartwarming feel good book. Barbara is really good at that. Nora is too, but she goes more into mysterys which is not all bad either. Heck even a November copy of GOURMET magazine would be the ticket.

I think I will pack up Sadie, and go back to bed. Screw it...

Slow Computer

Well all of a sudden my super fast Sony Viao Computer has decided to slow waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay down. I tried three different times to check my blog and yours, to no avail. Of course it might be Blogger too, can't tell. I went in and ran a chkdsk and a scan disk and deleted all my cookies and temp files and ran PC-Cillin and nothing. Just really slow.

So I will be posting this and that is all until I figure out what the deal is here. I have tons of Memory so that shouldn't be it, I turn the computer off every time, so the cache should be empty. I give up!!! maybe it's the weather....NO It's Brenda's Hob-goblins!!!!!

LEAF DAY...

WHile browsing through my daily blogs, NORTH COAST CAFEhas a Lovely story about Leaf Day Oct 17. She posted a gorgeous picture also, but since I dont want to break any rules, I wont put it on here. Not sure about the legalities. I would have given her site credit for the picture, but it is safer to just refer her site. You need to go read todays' entry if for nothing else, the Picture!

I will however try to do this one!!! They were featured on the today show this morning. It is a fund raiser for the Junction City Oregon, School district. Bake Sales didn't make enough money, this one is a winner!!! LOVE IT!!! OOPS!! It won't save, so you need to go here...LONG TOM GRANGE It was hit so many times this morning that it almost crashed, so wait a bit and then try again. NAKED FARMERS !!!!!! It is a HOOT!!! Well why not? It is very tastefully done, and if the Firefighters here in District Five can do it, (all volunteers) so can the Farmers of the grange!!!

Let's Hear it for the NAKED FAT LADY BLOGGERS!!! We could earn enough money to all meet at a central location, and have Lunch!!!

Just another night at the playhouse

Had a full dress rehearsal tonight. I had gone in on Saturday and set the lighting cues for Act I but we couldn't do act II because.......

Anyway 1/2 way through the first act, with jsut the four of us in the back row, a strange woman walked in with tears streaming down her face. She needed to use the phone. As I got up to take her back downstairs to the phone, I noticed the smudged mascara under her eyes. Something did not sit right with me, so I waited, I heard the words, son, Hospital, 10 dollars, please? and ok, just thought I'd ask. She told me that she had tried several businesses on the street and none would let her use the phone. (?) She then asked me if I had any money she could use for the payphone? I did not have any and felt kind of bad about it. She left. She was about 23-26 years old. I went back up and told the Director that I just didnt feel right about what had just happened, and she said the same thing happened to her TWICE as she was locking up the playhouse. If it happens again tomorrow night I think I will call the cops. Sounds like she is snowing us. Am I wrong? Am I too much of a BITCH? hmmmm....

15. We can make comments about how silly men are in their presence because they aren't listening anyway.

This is Ethel the Bitch….She hides under the bed. I got her when she was ten days old and had to feed her every two hours with an eyedropper and a babydoll bottle. She is a real Love and drools when she purrs…just does not trust strangers. She was born Feral, and her mother was killed, so her older sibling brought her to a safe home, where they turned her over to W.A.I.F. who called me to foster parent her until she was old enough to find a home for…CALL ME SUCKER…I kept her. I called her Ethel, because she screamed like Ethel Merman sang. Loud and Long. Ethel raised Mariah, and is not really fond of Sadie yet.

awake again...

What is it about 2:30 AM that wakes me up every night? I thought it must be Donna getting up to go, but she is on a visit home in Ellensburg this weekend, so It isn't her. I dunno. A storm is blowing through so maybe that is what woke me up. The wind is blowing at around 40 MPH and the wind chimes are really banging in the tree. I LOVE to listen to them. I have 5 of them hanging in various places around my yard. (I know Leslie, you hate them.) Maybe it is the rain pelting against the side of the house, that woke me. What ever it was, it has my full attention, as I can't get back to sleep.

In case you are wondering about the weird colors on the blog, do not fear, I was just playing to see if I could actually change colors with this HTML Crap. I did it!! I am looking for the right area to stick my links into, and wanted to see what would happen if i plugged in another color number. I will be changing it again. If not back to the way it was, at least to a more readable print.

Sadie is sleeping soundly...and I hope she stays that way, too windy and nasty to take her out there right now. SHe is getting sooo big soo fast. I have had her for 1 month today, and I swear she has tripled in size. She is really giving the cats a run for their money now. Her and Loki are two yellow streaks running through the house, sometimes it is hard to see who is chasing who. Ethel is a real bitch and just sits there and whacks at her and growls. But then she is the Grand Dame of the house. My oldest pet now, and she is 10 years old. Oh wait...My SOn's cat Lint is older. I forgot. He is 12 or 13. I inheirited him when Errant Son was incarsarated. He is out now, but I still have the Cat. Funny how that works. Well at least they aren't leaving me KIDS!! just pets.

Well, the sandman must have been by because I have really scratchy eyes, so Maybe I can get back to sleep before it is time to get up. See ya...

Tonights pumpkin...

I found this one last night. I LOVE IT!!!!! LOLOLOLOLOL

testing testing

Ok I tried something did it work?

RE-DO

I am going to Try this again. I blogged for an hour last night and lost the whole thing. Brenda told me about cutting and pasting, so We shall try that this time.
AS I WAS SAYING… I had just read Rachel’s entry about featuring people that you read everyday. Pick one that is note worthy and tell everybody about it.
Instead I am going to tell you how I got to blogging and where I came from to get here. When I retired My daughter told me to start a blog on what my life was like after retirement. I had only seen a few blogs and had no idea there were so many out there. Chemystery’s blog was one of the only ones I read on a daily basis, as that at least let me know she was alive. She read others that were basically linkers, and I wasn’t too thrilled with them.
I Started it just to keep me busy. I had just retired from a very high stress, Multi Million Dollar a year store on a Navy Base. I was a Manager, and used to being in charge and very busy, with numbers and seasons in my head at all times. July was Christmas, January was bathing suits. This was a real change for me, and I was afraid I would get bored.
Unfortunately the War in Iraq was looming ahead, and I had to have my say on it. I have been accused of being the only person in the world who actually voted for GW. I discovered that I was NOT. There were others out there just like me. I started reading their blogs and through them others. I also started reading BLOGS OF NOTE and through there I found Dave Barry’s blog. I happen to think he is really funny and started reading his links daily. Through Blogs of note I also met ANNE whose Letters to Rob will break your heart. They are about writing to her step brother, after he had committed suicide. She is a very independent woman who I would love to adopt. She left a very Lucrative job in LA to drive clear across country to go back to art school and follow her dream. She now lives in Baltimore and works in a Barnes and Noble store.
I also stumbled upon Grouchy old Cripple In Atlanta. I don’t care for his language, but he is opinionated and he also voted for GW. He had a lot of links to war blogs and I followed them through the War. I read daily, SALAM PAX who is a young man who lives in Baghdad. I sat through the bombing terrified that he was killed. He wasn’t and is now quite the celebrity. From there I followed more links and found LESLIE. Through her links and other links I have found the friends I have now.
I also have blogs in Japan, Scotland, and Canada that I read everyday. There are about 50 blogs that I have bookmarked, and most I only read once a week. Some have quit blogging and some have moved and left no forwarding address.

Today I found Here Kitty, after a long time of losing her, and through her I discovered her Mom’s blog. She is a 70’s or so, independent woman who has just had laser surgery on her eyes and has a brand new scooter. She is a hoot. I will read her daily.
I realize that I did not name everybody I read, nor those who read me, but I will try to get some one new up every day or so. I think this is a great idea. Especially for those of us who don’t have links up yet.
Miss Kitty’s Mom is Lorraine, and she reads health magazines, and this is a quote from one of them…I thought it was a hoot. Only because with a bad knee and a bad back, I can relate. SORTA.
"........If you or someone you know has difficulty wiping after bowel movements or just want great hygiene, the life-changing Solution ComfortSeat® washes and dries user with little or no assistance. Our NoWipe™ Personal Hygiene Products eliminates the twisting, turning and hand motion needed in wiping. [snip] ......Restores independence and dignity to the user. All ritey then. Gimme one TushyCleanBidet™ and one Solution ComfortSeat™
posted by Lorraine

I hope this all worked. We shall soon see. Never fear, I will get to you soon. This was a sorta recreation of what I wrote last night, although not nearly as good. I can never re-write.

THANKS BRENDA!!!

SHIT!!!!!!!!!!

I just spent 1 FUCKING HOUR writting and lost the whole CRAPPY THING!!!!! ARRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! and it was really good. I HATE THIS!!!!!!

Halloween

I think I will carve this one for my new deck....

JOY!!!

Joy of Joy's...the Naval Air Station is practicing their Carrier Landings today. For those of you who have never been so blessed, The EA6-B's are jets that land on air craft carriers, and in order to do this they need to practice on a non-moving deck. They have a carrier deck replicated on a landing strip and they come in low and loud and hit the deck where the cables are, and then hit the throttle and pull up. THe key is to touch tires breifly on the runway, and then get airborne again. This teaches new pilots to safely land on the ship. Unfortunately, I live Right at the end of said runway. so when they come in from the North, I get the loud throttle noise which scares the hell out of the cats, as the planes go roaring right over the roof. When they come in from the South, it is worse, because they are lining up with the runway lights, and trying to get their speed down to a speed that will allow a safe "trap". This becomes a very long low loud roar, roar, roar, as they adjust their whatevers.

I knew the Outlying Field was here when I bought the house. So I can't complain, but it is irritating. THere is a move afoot to get rid of the base, but I don't think people realize that it could get MUCH worse if the jets go away. There would be a perfectly good Air port just sitting there. It could easily be an annex to SEA-TAC, and get the cargo jets away from the Seattle area. UGH!!! The economy of the Island would in all likely hood collapse for a while.

So while I grumble about the noise, I live with it. It provided me a secure living for 37 years, and my father one also for 50+ years. The majority of the people that live in my development are retired Military. We need the base, and it's services. We need the economy that the base provides. We need quiet jets. ah well. It isn't for long. They practice for about 2 hours a day, and then it is quiet...and Sadie can pee.

How Mundane!!!

Kick back and catch up!

I decided that today was going to be a kick back and catch up day. I can do that you know. I am retired! I deserve to be able to do that and not be charged sick leave. Or feel guilty for calling in. I even really got dressed! I even really drove into town and asked about the shirts for the play. Didn't get anywhere though.

Our Producer quit, and we cant find her, and she was supposed to have ordered our shirts for the play. These shirts are basically souveneirs and advance advertising for the show. We Buy them, and wear them all the time to get the word out. We have no idea where our money is, and the shirts have NOT been ordered! Me thinks I smell a RAT! It was only 160 dollars, but I think that if we do not get our money back by Monday, that we need to report it as a theft. (I am Really Nasty when crossed) I have values, and I just expect everyone I deal with to have the same values. I have been called a POLLYANNA because I do not see the bad in people first. ANd I am always amazed when We catch a bad employee stealing. (I guess I should put that in the past tense now that I am retired huh) It really burns me to be taken advantage of.

I got the Thanksgiving Issue of Bon Appetite today. I Love that issue! I save them every year. I usually wait until a really nasty day, build a fire, fix a pot of tea or coffee, turn on Classic KING FM and lay down in front of the woodstove and read it from cover to cover. There is something so comforting about that. It seeps clear into the marrow of my bones, and makes me feel so good. I dont know if it is the tea, the fire, the relaxing music, the floor, or the thought of all that wonderful food. I need to wait for Gourmet to come in next and then It is Martha Stewart Living. AHHHHHh I LOVE Fall and winter.

Coupeville has a contest every year. The HArvest Fest is the end of October, and all of the business and houses on Main Street, vie to see who can put up the mose original Scarecrow themed display. One year the local bar, had a scarecrow "hanging" out of the "broken" window. Like it was drunk, and had been tossed out. The High School had the scarecrows all dressed in the cheer leader outfits, The Volunteer fire Dept had an old truck and straw firepeople.
(How safe is THAT?) Today I drove by the old folks home and there is an old folk scarecrow and is being held up by a scare nurse. really cute. I wonder what I could put up? A scare woman in her muumuu with a scare puppy pulling on her hem? NAh

Our shows opening night is Halloween! hope we don't have any mischeif at the Playhouse that night! I can just see our resident Spook actually making an appearance and scaring our cast to death. (they are all old) icky!

OOPS Sadie is awake she's gotta go pottie...

Tech stuff...

Ok, I think I have posting pictures down ok, I just need to keep the cheat-sheet handy. I cant figure out though how to make them smaller. I tried making the pixel coumt half of what it is, But I only got 1/2 of the picture. Hmmmmmmmmm

What I really want to be able to figure out though is how to add links to the Blogs I like. And get my guest map up on the top side, instead of at the bottom, where no one finds it. :-( I read DREAMWEAAVER and the WEB SITES FOR DUMMIES books yesterday, and just got even more confused. I guess I could just start over from scratch and rebuild with tables, but I don't want to. Donna also told me that the colors were in the DREAMWEAVER book. I didn't see them anywhere.

What am I missing here? Even KIDS have better layed out blogs than I have. ARRGGHHHHHHHH!!!!

And Ben!!

and Ben....

Lola!!!

For the past few days I have not had many visitors at all at my feeder. I was worried that I had some bad seed or something. Well yesterday I had two "Lola's"....

Dog Tales

Dog's Pet Peeves about Human's

1. Blaming your farts on me - not funny, not funny at all.

2. Yelling at me for barking - I'M A FRIGGIN' DOG!!

3. How you naively believe that the stupid cat isn't all over everything while you're gone. Have you noticed that your toothbrush tastes a little like cat-butt?

4. Taking me for a walk, then not letting me check stuff out. Exactly whose walk is this anyhow?

5. Any trick that involves balancing food on my nose - stop it.

6. Yelling at me for rubbing my butt on your carpet - Why'd you buy a carpet?

7. Getting upset when I sniff the crotches of your guests. Sorry but I haven't quite mastered that handshake thing ... !

8. How you act disgusted when I lick myself - Look, we both know the truth, you're just jealous.

9. Dog sweaters - Have you noticed the fur?

Dog toys...

There are billions spent every year on toys for your pets. I will admit that I also am pulled in to the trap, and spend far more than my fixed income should allow me to. Until Sadie...She has a few toys, but her favorites are the trash in my bedroom, the trash in the computer room, the cats catnip mice, (ok, that I bought) and her Uncle Bandit. The two of them are really funny to watch. For 11 years Bandit has been an only child, and spoiled rotten by dear darling daughter. He is a big dog, but believes that his place is inside right by you at all times. Until Sadie...she jumps and bites, and plays, and brings him her puppy cookies, and runs and barks at him. All the while he is laying there growling deep down "leave me alone" growls, followed by an occasional sharp "I SAID LEAVE ME ALONE DAMMIT" bark. I was getting into the shower today, and she was doing her thing and he was doing his, and I immediately thought of HEIDI and Grandfather. Young whippersnappers!!!

She got the hint and decided to move on to other toys. I had just sorted my laundry and it was in piles on the bedroom floor. WRONG MOVE! She pulled my sweat pants into the computer room, and then she grabbed the odd sock or two. Now, I just took my panties away from her. Why do dogs Love to chew the crotch of panties? (Never mind, Kat, don't answer that) I now have her sequestered in the computer room which seems to be her KILLING ZONE. All of the items she finds are brought in here. Lose a sock, check the Office, Lose a bra? check the office, Can't find a cat? Check behind the computer in the office. What energy!! wish I could bottle it!!

OH I forgot!! MEAT DIAPERS!!!! she LOVES to dig in the kitchen trash for those!! They also are in the middle of the office floor.

Well time to get off here and copy GODSPELL CD five times for the staff meeting tonite, GOtta get ready for Auditions, Nov 2+3.

OOPS also gotta clean up the kitchen and get all the pear peelings into the mulch pile. They are drawing fruit flies. Be back later.

Pears

I got up at 7:00 took Sadie out to pee, made a pot of coffee and went right back to bed. Now woke up at 815, drank coffee took Sadie out to pee, picked up poop in Living room because I left her alone while I went back to sleep, and did my blog surfing.

At 10:00 I sat down to start on the Pears. I couldn't remember if I used the apple peeler or a knife to do the pears with, so tried both. It was a knife, the peeler automatically cuts them into rings. (knew there was a reason I didn't like it) I gathered up the jars, and lids and rings, put the canning board on a drawer, started the canner water boiling, made the syrup, and sat down to can. I have two cases of pears and three cases of apples to put up. I just finished with the first case of pears, took about 2 1/2 hours. This is peeling, and coring, and putting them into the jars to get ready for the canner. I have 12 Qts done and 3 in the canner. Taking a break for Lunch then on to case number two.

I love canned pears. I slice them in half and put them in the jar with two peppermint leaves, and fill with the med Simple syrup. Oh they are soooo good!! just a hint of mint, and they are wonderful. I thought about a tinge of green food coloring, but I decided I wanted them plain. Sometimes I use them as a salad. Pear halves with grated cheddar cheese and a spoon of Mayo or Blue cheese dressing on top. Really good. And easy.

Sadie was sleeping right under my chair, which was right beside the stove. I didnot want her to get splashed with boiling water or syrup so I put her out side for awhile. NOPE AINT GONNA WORK MOM!! I CAN YELL LOUDER THAN YOU CAN!! and boy di she ever!! scratch scritch howl, yell. OK SADIE! Spoiled little Brat. I hate people that spoil their kids and pets. MINE aren't!! (yeah, RIGHT!!!)

I have to set lights for OVER THE RIVER AND THROUGH THE WOODS tonite at 5:00 so I may not get the pears finished today. Gotta save time for the NAP!

For centuries and Eons, the lot across the street has not perked. Can't build on it, because there is no way to put in a septic system. Well SOmebody bought it and they are gonna build a 2 story house on it. How can they do that? I thought "doesn't perk" means it NEVER WILL? I have a view of the Olym[ic Mountains over the top of that lot. There it goes. SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh wait until the Planes start!!! They will LOVE that I am sure!!

On to case Number two...

Growing isn't she?

Here is week 4 of Sadie's time with us.

Eastern Washington...

First let me start off by saying that I look forward to this trip every year. I love the colors of the vine maples and the tamarack trees mixed in with the evergreens. We start out by going up Highway 20 (State Route) which leads us up over the North Cascade National Park, Recreation Area, FOrest. etc. It is BEEYOUTIFUL up there, the Mountains are really craggy and the highway has only been open for 30 years so it has not been ruined by businesses. On the way over, we go by three dams and lakes, along the Skagit River, which Seattle City Light put in years and years ago to keep Seattle powered up. I think if it were to be proposed today, the answer would be a resounding NO!! THey wanted to raise the highest and last dam another 400 feet, which would have allowed Ross Lake to inundate British Columbia, and also to flood several of the last wilderness valleys and trails that are left. THANK GOD those wiley Canucks said not only no, but HELL no!! THose saving the last stand of some of the oldest red cedar trees in the world. The drive up past all of these dams and their ensuing lakes is breath taking. Going higher and higher until you are sitting at the crest of the North Cascade Mountains, and then like a slide show, the scenery instantly changes, from verdant evergreens and thick drippy fog, (yep, all the way up) to rocks and sparce dry pines, and brown trees and grasslands. THe air again was thick, but this time with Smoke from all of the fires that have been burning all summer in the upper part of the state and into Canada. One in particular has been burning for 3 months. The color on the trees did not happen this year, too dry, too hot. We drove along the Methow RIver for 30 plus miles and the river bottom could be seen the whole way. SAD!!

We got over to the fruit stand we go to every year, loaded the car with apples and pears, and continued on our way. We followed the Mighty Columbia river down as far as Wenatchee, then turned and took US 2 all the way home. For those of you that have misconceptions about Washsington State, No it does not rain all the time, just on the West side of the mountains, the Eastern Side looks like the rest of the WEST. Desert, Brown, Cactus, rocks, and the Mighty Columbia. While the Columbia starts out in Canada in the Rockies, and wanders down into Washington, the Majority of it is a wide, slow moving meandering river kinda like the Mississippi, until It reaches the first of about 10 dams along its way. These dams are also for generating Hydro-electric power for places no where near Washington. Again, SAD! Along the river are canyons called Coulees that are irrigated and are perfect for growing apples and pears and apricots. The whole way down there are orchards tucked into the banks and the hills along the river. Gorgeous. When the river turns and heads back towards the east and then South, the Wenatchee River takes over the job of irrigating the orchards along Hiway 2. This becomes prettier and prettier as you start the climb back up and over the top into the rainy side. the Town of Leavenworth was an old railroad town that was dying, so the town fathers decided they needed a theme and they rebuilt the town into Bavaria of the West. THe Mountains from there on over look like the Alps in Switzerland, thus the theme.

The first week in October is the Autumn Leaves Festival in Leavenworth, and also Octoberfest. I forgot. People everywhere! wearing weird lederhosen and drinking beer and eating sausages. We got there too late for the fun, but just in time for the traffic. We stopped at a restaurant that was away from all of the festivities and had a really good meal, then continued on our way. As I opened the car door the fruit in the back hit me in the nose. THe whole car smelled just like an apple air freshner. YUMMY.

Bob oped Sadie's carrier and gave her a little bite of prime Rib fat. OH MAN!!!! she allmost chewed his hand off. She has now found there is more than just Puppy Chow in this world. We got back to the ferry landing about 9PM and home about 945, so we were gone about 13 hours. A really long and tiring trip, and usually one that is much longer because of all the stops I make to photograph the colors. Not this time. Too much smoke and fog and no color.

I now have three cases of apples and two cases of pears to put up, so i had better get off and get busy huh?

FUNNY

Thought this was apropos

Hunkerin' down

The weather has changed with a POW! THe fog has a grip on the land and is not letting the sun get close. It is so foggy out, that the deck has puddles, the grass is wet, and the trees are dripping with the moisture grabbed from the sky. It is cold. Cold compared to what it has been. It is in the 50's which isn't really COLD, but with the humidity so high, it seeps right into your bones. A Grand day for Hunkerin' down as my mom used to say. I got up with Sadie at 6:30 and took her out to pottie, she ran around in the yard until she was really wet, then pooped and wanted to come back in. SO in we came. Shivering from the cold and dampness, because I was stupid enough to go out with no robe, just my ratty looking flannel pj's. So worn, that they are nothing but threads...literally. Holes, sleeves cut off 1/2 way, no hems, COMFY!!! NOthing to keep you warm. Anyway, I digress...We came in, and I stumbled back into bed, and let Sadie run. Donnas room was open, and she was not up yet, so I knew Sadie would find Bandit in there and would wake Donna up, that way I wouldn't get yelled at. (teehee) I pulled the covers back up over my shoulders and turned on Katie, Matt, Al and Ann to get the latest news. It was so comfortable, bed still warm, cool air coming in the window, back and knee finally not aching, and I immediately went back to sleep. The heater cats were doing their job. One on top of my back, two as close as they could get to me on the side. Life is good.

I woke up with three cats levitating off of my bed, and my face getting washed by puppy tongue. Mean nasty Donna must have put Sadie on the bed. Woke up all of us. The cats are ok with Sadie, but not while she is fully awake and they are asleep. So I made a wall out of the pillows that I sleep with, and Sadie and I hunkered down and went back to sleep.

Woke up with Martha making glow in the dark lollipops. A Grand Day for HUNKERIN'...

Ichabod Crane

Tonite as I came home from the playhouse, I had a tough time driving. THe moon was out, sort of, but the ground fog was forming so fast, that in some places you could not see the road. I now have a car with halogen lights for driving in the fog. Guess which two lights are burned out? go figure. ANyway, I was driving up over the high hill, dropping down into Coupeville, and remembered I was out of milk and Bread, so I stopped at Prarie Center and then drove home the back way. The fog was rolling across the newly shorn fields and laying really low in the swales. As my headlights hit it, it turned to instant white, and blinded me. You need to turn your brights down in FOg. I turned down Wanamaker Rd, and started across the now empty fields where corn stalks stood just yesterday. I had the weirdest feeling that I was being followed. I thought immediately of Ichabod Crane and the Headless Horseman, and started beating my horse to go faster. It is amazing how you can buy into the fables so much that reason goes right out the window and fear takes over where you know that in your right mind, there is NOTHING there. Or is there?....

surprise in the grass

I found this today peeking out of the grass. Where I did not plant it.

Fall ? really????

It is October 1, 2003, and if I had been asleep for several months, I would swear it was Mid July. The only thing that shows FALL is the leaves on the trees. Although some July's have been so dry that the leaves are brown then. I drove Sadie to the Vet today, and went the back way along the spit. Admiralty Inlet was very calm, but out on the water, there was a very thin low lying layer of fog. The tops of the Olympics were showing over the haze, and there was no snow on them. THe sun is falling lower and lower in the atmosphere, and the mid day sunshine is showing gold. Summer time shows white sun, fall shows gold.

I woke up at 630 this morning, and it was pitch dark out. What happened to full sun at 500? there was foggy haze over the neighborhood, and when I took Sadie out, the grass was really wet and you could see your breath. Just a hair from the freezing mark. It won't be long now.

Along the spit, the sea grasses were red and gold and yellow. Just about ready to go to sleep. The tide was in and sloshing rythymically on the rocks. I could tell it wasn't July, because the Ferry line only had a few cars in it. July is over-flow time, backed up into the Fort Casey State Park. It is starting to become habitable again. The tourists are almost gone, the ones left are the old farts with their honking big motor homes. taking their time, enjoying our island.

I just had Sadie out to play in the back yard, and there is a rose that I never knew I had trying to make a comeback. I think I will let it. It almost looks like a miniature rose, but I did not plant any of those. It is a bright orange red almost looks like a Flame. I will dig it up and move it into a whiskey barrell so it will have a chance to come back. I had over thirty roses planted when I got my orders to move to Nevada, and my renters trashed my house and my yard. It has been almost three years, that I have been back, and I am just now finding my back yard. I am moving all of the roses, (at least the ones that survived) from the middle of the yard to either around the deck, or into the garden. That way I can mow grass, and not cut them down.

THe Vet had a fit over Sadie, He is the same one who put Mariah down, He was giggling over her, and we were trading potty stories, and laughing. What a difference in visits.

Sadie is in to her terrible twos, and I am finding little "presents" everywhere. I guess now we have to corral her a little more, and watch her a little closer now. She is going longer and longer in between pottie times, and is getting unpredictible. She is almost big enogh to leave out in the yard for a while. I will get her house refurbished and painted, and renamed. and make sure she knows that it is hers. She still is really good about not going in her penned in area. But the floors are starting to become fair game. I pulled up my carpets and put down Laminate flooring when I got back from Nevada, and they are wso much easier to clean up after, but I still dont want poop on my floor. It is pretty bad when one of the cats walks by it and tries to cover it up. Then I see them and think, OH GOD SHE THINKS I DID THIS!! I don't of course, because it looks different. But Darn they are funny.

I am going to try fixing my blog. DOnna wants me to re do the template. I am not sure what Is going to happen here, but either it will work or it wont. I really appreciate the morale support. I have website for Dummies right here, and I am reading it. humphhh...gotta run, Oprah's on!!!
