Kenny's Poem

I have a friend who occaisionally sends me jokes, so when I got this I was expecting a punch line. It turns out he had just lost his cousin in Austin, Texas, that he was very close to, so he sat down and wrote this poem. It is very good, and he has given me permission to post it here for you all to read....

A Souls Journey
By Kenny Merrell

The departed no longer speak
Their silence echo through the room
Now living only in memories past
Just shadows in the gloom
Kept now within a special place
To visit now and then
At night, in bed, before we sleep
We bring them out again
Remembering
What event matters not
Just movement in the mind
Their spectral shimmer giving joy
Of what they left behind
A soul departs to meet it¹s fate
Life experience to atone
For slights and spites no longer felt
The outcome never known
The soul that lies within our mind
Is warm and comforting
If we could just bring it out
To measure life¹s meaning
The departed no longer speak
Their silent voice far reaching
Across a void of space so vast
On earth our time so fleeting
The touch of God upon our soul
The only comfort passing
The one true journey leaving earth
For life everlasting

He is Kenny Merrell and can be reached at kenneth@whidbey.net He is a wonderfully kind man, and makes a killer brisket!!! His wife is soooooo spoiled.
