Eruption!!! Uh-uh!!!! Just Steam...

The Typical Weather Pattern for the first part of the Year has finally hit us. Clear Blue skies and COLD!!! It is down into the low 20's during the night, and never gets out of the 30's during the day.

I woke up this morning at 620, and it was light outside already!! WHOOT!! The sun would not rise for another hour, but the long predawn was clear and bright. I sat there looking out my window from my bed, and watching my breath puff out. The birds were awake and flocking to the feeders. Sadie had already gone out, and wanted back in, so I let her in and we both went back to the bed. The electric Blanket was calling our names. We sat there watching the birds until Sadie decided that she needed to scare Harry away from the suet feeder.

Sitting in the sun feels so good. Ethel is hogging the sun in the window, and when she walks by me on her way off the sill, and over the keyboard, she smells so fresh and warm, and her fur is warm to the touch.

One of the benefits of living in the Pacific Northwest is the incredible beauty that we have all around us. The Cascade Mountains to the East, and the Olympic Mountains to the west. Most of the time we cant see these beauties, because of the low grey drippy clouds that we always have. But when the clouds are gone, up pop the mountains.

Mount Baker is the closest to us. It is 10,800 feet high, and an active volcano although it is dormant. It does steam though, and in the cold February air, it shows up like an eruption. It isn't. It steams normally, all the time. It just shows up more when the weather is so cold. The steam is good, it lets off the pressure so that it WON'T blow its top like Mt St Helens did. It was on the news last night steaming away. This picture was taken by me over 25 years ago, but it looks the same way today. Same Mountain, same Month, Same steam...God I love it!!
