foggy kites Posted by Hello

Yesterday Whidbey Island sponsored a Kite Festival at Fort Casey State Park. It is an old WWI army base, that has been turned over to the state. Makes a great place to fly kites, as there are lots of fields and no wires!

I drove down to see it on the way to the Playhouse, and it was FOGGED IN!! There really are a lot of kites there in the picture, You just can't see them. The one you can see is real close to the road. Normally this is a great way to spend a weekend. Sitting on a blanket, with a picnic basket, and watching the kite competition. They are Competition kites, meaning they choreograph a routine set to music. THey fly dual, single, or more. And each person has a dance they have to get their kite to do. The first time I saw this, it was set to Rhapsody in Blue by George Gershwin, and it was MAGNIFICENT!

We try to go every year, as it is just right over there--->>>>>about 2 miles. It is just so relaxing. They have all kinds of kites there from all over the Pacific Northwest. There are several groups from Canada, some from California, Nevada, and Idaho. THere are kites for sale, and lessons for beginners. One of these years I will save up and buy a kite, and learn to fly it. They are really spendy. Gone are the newspaper and string kites we used to fly, these are made of rip-stop Nylon, and are made to fly easily with no wind.

The FOg did not stop people from flying them, But it did stop people from SEEING them. We have been socked in for almsot a week. and today it is bright sunshine.

I got a nice lesson on FRONT PAGE< so I will be trying to get my blog set up. I have not been able to get ahold of the server dudes yet, as the planes have been flying all day, and I cant talk on the phone while they fly. But I WILL!!!!!
