Fall Has Fell....AGAIN!

BRRRRRRR. Our Late summer finally arrived about the end of August and lasted until Yesterday! It started raining, and is still. THe leaves are falling off the trees like snowflakes falling. My poor tomatoes are so confused! THey were very late to get growing, but once they did they went to town, and as of last weekend, They were LOADED with blossoms and little bitty green tomatoes. ANd as of last night, they are starting to turn yellow and die back. THe tomatoes are too small to do anything with, they are early girls and should be about 3 " across to use for green tomatoes. THey are still only the size of a quarter. ah well.

I have the MOTHER of all slugs in my back yard! I opened the back door when I heard him knocking, and I kid you not, He is the BIGGEST damned slug I have ever seen. a good 3 inches Across and 6-7 inches long and green and yellow spotted. the most vulgar thing to be knocking at my door! YUCK!!

I have no idea where he was hiding to get that large, but his brothers are out now too, and chomping away on anything they can find!

Ever seen one climb a glass door? OH YUCKKKKK!!!! they are so gross!

It has been dry here to see many slugs but bet they are out again in my garden now that we got a rain. That one was kind of pretty in a sluggish way...

You need some ducks- they love to eat slugs. I always told Annie that they were what restaurants load into the shells to sell as escargot. It is possible that I am wrong on that but it does seem possible. I don't eat them.

Ewww those are some nasty critters for sure. I've never seen anything quite like it.

Got that fire going Miz Mary lou? No autumn in sight here yet except for the crops being ready for harvest.

Dick that is a rumor started by some nasty waiters!! ;)

I actually tried escargot and it is quite good, if fixed right. I think these banana slugs would be too tough for escargot.

Anji??? you wanna comment on those?

My Granny used to kill those slugs by pouring table salt on them (canning salt is what she generally used). They hated that... torture possibly, but PETA didn't come running. *snorts shamelessly*

Cool here some mornings, but then warms up during the day. The rain just will NOT stop here... we are going to float away I think. Everything flooded last week, what a mess... we are water logged.

Keep warm and cozy and get rid of that YUCKY slug, OK? lol

Hey,,, com'on you guys,,, slugs is good people. lol!
Yep Mary Lou,,, I love escargot myself. Sometimes Jim and I would get a couple orders of it along with a split of champagne, and that, along with some good french bread would be a special dinner out. Good memories indeed.
This guy could be a guard slug. I think you should name him.

That is a very interesting slug. I have never seen one that color or that large. We aren't losing our leaves yet, but the cool nights have slowed the ripening of the last of the tomatoes.

Oh man I HATE slugs!!! And that one is really nasty!
It's still in the 80's here, although the 10-day forecast says it might be upper 70's later on. We have a few leaves turning and dropping, but our big weekend for color isn't until the third weekend in October.

Oooo...I like that slug! Like escargot too, and ducks though if I had a choice I'd rather have ducks and poopy walkways than slug covered ones.

Whoa, that is one spectacular slug. I've been a lazy blog walker lately, but I poke my head in now and again. Hope you are well.

I hate slugs. Once I see one, my gardening is done for the day. The one in your photo is absolutely awful.

What strange colours. Where I lived in England the slugs were black. Here they are brown and you can guess what they remind me of.

An escargot is a snail. I imagine snails are more tender than slugs. I tried them once too. Yuk! but the garlic sauce they were in was delicious!
