Well Fall has fell. At least that is what Jeff on Channel 5 said. You would not know it by the weather though! We are having unusually hot and dry weather. The trees are starting to lose their leaves, and the evenings are getting cooler, but today was a gorgeous summer day. I was almost late for my Yoga class this morning. I no longer have an alarm clock. Threw it out when I retired! what wakes me up is the birds at the feeder, and the sun hitting my face, or Loki licking my cheek for breakfast. TOday, they pussy willow tree was still in full leaf, and the birds were not making noise, Loki had decided to sleep on the sofa, and the sun had not hit my face yet. Fall. THe sun moves from way over here, to way over there and back again. My house faces the West, and my bedroom faces East, so my bedroom gets the morning light.
I always note the time and the date that I first notice Orion pop up over the alders each Fall. This year it was way into September, around 4:00AM. The alders are getting taller, so Orion has farther to go to be seen. He is my favorite constellation. I know that once orion is fully risen that the cold and the winter will not be far behind.
This year Fall snuck up on me. I have been so busy with the show that I just did not have time to do all the late summer things I usually do. No apples, No Pears, no peaches no tomatoes canned. just lots of zuchinni bread. THe autumn light is there though. The sun just went down behind the house across the street, and as it went, the sky turned bright gold! I have a feeling that we are going to be paying for all this great weather all winter long! any body wanna take a guess on the first frost?

It felt like a summer day here too! I think the first frost is still several weeks away.
First frost for y'all will probably be fairly Soon! But even I have a jacket on this morning! In the 50's this morning!hughugs
Your birdwatching reminds me to this....
In the month of May or so, you gave me the link to the eagles nest on Sidney Island and believe it or not, we are still watching the nest, because there is much more to see after the eagles left the nest. We have seen several squirrels and all kind of birds which only live in Canada and in your area. In the morning a dog is barking and we hear trucks and sometimes chainsaws. It's funny to be there for a few moments. And BTW, they removed the poop from the camera lens :-)
Once the night gets longer the frost comes soon after. Officially we don't get frost here until December. Some years non at all. Not as good as it sounds, as it can be very damp and cold, not good for joints and aches and pains.
Usually get it here sometime during the last 5 days of October.
I'm thinking it'll happen in early November this year.

I think I would enjoy Fall so much more if it didn't lead to Winter. Summer just seemed to speed by too quickly.
October 17th
Wow, that is just around the corner Phyllis! Why then?
First frost? Yikes. Well it was certainly cold enough last night. Got down to 9 degrees Celsius up here. I'm guessing October 17th.
Hey ya woman. You need to update my link to the new one. I've been gone for awhile but trying to get back into the swing of blogging. Slow recovery.
Fall came here too soon, too. But it's cold and rainy, not hot and dry. I got really wet during my morning walk.
It's good to be busy.

I'm responding a couple of weeks after your original post (Oct 6). I have seen light frost on rooftops in the neighborhood a couple of mornings this month but the temp hasn't been below 37F here in Mount Vernon. But it has been cool enough that the leaves are changing color and dropping off the trees.
I like this time of the year but also don't like it as I know what follows. Spring is better because then I can look forward to summer following. And I hope it won't be too wet and cold a winter, like the one last year.
