Is anyone besides me just mad as hell that one political entity in One state can change the wording in History books at their own WHIM? There were wars fought over the fact that someone burned books and covered up the real history, and we are doing it again in TEXAS!! (sorry Donna!) I can understand religious entities wanting to write their own history for their own people, although I personally think it is WRONG, but to change real time school books just because you dont like the way they portray history should be forbidden!
If I had children in school right now, I think I would be jumping up and down on the school board's desks to ensure that our entire history was told correctly! The bad and the good! If we continue covering up the bad, and changing things, then our future generations will NEVER learn from our forefathers misdeeds, mistakes.
I am so sick of the Religious Right dictating things in MY life. Religion has NO PLACE in our governments or in our schools, but in our CHURCHES and Synagogues and other places of worship.

Religion is completely separate from the state here. Even Catholic schools have to leave religious education until after hours. It has caused problems with women and girls who wear veils. My children reminded me not to put on a pendant in the form of a cross one day when I was teaching in school.
There is a lot in history that we have to be ashamed of. If children don’t learn about it, how can they make sure that the bad things don’t happen again?

Yup, Anji got it right, we should be scared about what is happening in our schools.
No offence taken...but that was the Problem. Example:
The left took Out Thomas Jefferson...and wanted HipHop inserted....the Right, added him back in...and a fight broke out! How about the Battle of San Jacinto? They wanted That cut as Well! Can you imagine? (several of Many examples)
Personally, I want the Correct histories taught...with no one left out. Kids should learn about Benjamin Franklin as Well as Martin Luther King...Is Hip hop important enough to cut a Nations leader or famous battles?
In My View Only:
You learn about "where you Came from" at Home, NOT in the classroom...You learn about Everyone, in school.
You go to school to Learn... Math, History, reading, writing...Civics...Spelling..Science...
It's the Parents or Guardians job to teach you the principles of your ethnicity, Not the schools.
The further away from God we get, the more our Nation suffers for it...I am sad to see it...
Yes, I'm a Gun toting, God Fearing, Southerner and on the Right of things, but even I can see that to actually Cut from the History books instead of just adding, makes No sense to me...

Donna, I would never throw things at you. Other than wishing That GOD would not be in EVERYTHING (well maybe GOD as you want to view him...that would cover everyone!) I totally agree with you! History needs to be taught correctly, or we will continue to repeat the autrosities that we commeted in the past. bad spelling I know...

Donna, I think it is because you and I dont have an AGENDA that we are trying to make money off of and SELL. We just agree to disagree, and RESPECT the other peoples views! Politicians and Lawyers and Talk Show people need to be ostracized!
