Every Fall, our weather does some very strange things, one of them being the weather patterns over Mt. Rainier. Back in the 50's someone saw this cloud formation and thought it was a flying saucer over the Mountain. From this came the reports that Washington State was being invaded. It slowly went away, and now it only pops up again when the clouds form. These are called Ventricular clouds, and are formed by the warm air meeting the cold air, and swirling...similar to tornadic action, but not nearly as powerful.
Yesterday, the clouds appeared again, and in the most vivid of colors. KOMO TV had several pictures on their website, and I stole this one!
I just LOVE the flying saucer clouds...oooooo, let's get another rumopr started!!

That is awesome. Never saw anything like that when we were stationed in Washington.
Fascinating rare clouds formations. I have never seen this before. My first thought was that the photo had been manipulated in Photoshop :-)

The forming of those clouds was the subject of the weather information on the 5pm news on KING - 5 that night. It is an interesting subject.

We could see some of those clouds from down here in North Vancouver (Washington). They were weird looking but sure pretty!
I don't remember how I found your blog but I have been reading for quite a while. I just started my blog a couple months back. We were stationed at Bangor WA and hope to retire around Bangor WA. I had to blog about Mt Rainier and the clouds I saw on your blog. My family all loves Washington State. Enjoy your day.
